Question 1

What is an ASN (Autonomous System Number)?

Accepted Answer

An ASN is a unique identifier assigned to a network or group of networks operated by a single entity (ISP, hosting provider, enterprise). BGP routing uses ASNs to exchange routing information between networks on the internet. For example, Cloudflare's ASN is AS13335, Amazon's is AS16509.

Question 2

Why does my IP show the wrong location?

Accepted Answer

IP geolocation is an approximation based on ARIN/RIPE/APNIC registry data and MaxMind/ip-api databases. Accuracy varies: country is typically 95%+ accurate, city-level accuracy is 50-80%. VPNs, Tor, and cloud servers will show the location of the exit node or data center, not the actual user.
